International Steel Group to Restart Cleveland Caster and BOF

International Steel Group announced their intention to restart a continuous caster and basic oxygen furnace on the west side of its Cleveland Works. The move will result in the hiring of approximately 140 previously laid off steelworkers.

International Steel Group plan to invest $10 million on maintenance and engineering relating to the restart of the operation which has been idle since June of 2001, when it it was owned by LTV Corp.

They expect the furnace to be up and running, producing steel in May. The furnace has capacity to produce 60,000 tonnes of steel per month. The production capacity from this furnace will balance International Steel Group’s iron producing and rolling capabilities at the Cleveland operation.
