Leading international minerals analysis company Intellection has established a firm foothold in Russia, with the appointment of Carl Zeiss Russia as distributor, and the sale of a QEMSCAN® system.
The first automated, quantitative minerals analysis system available in Russia, Intellection’s QEMSCAN® will initially be installed at the A.P. Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute (VSEGEI) in St Petersburg in March 2008.
Carl Zeiss Russia Head of Electron Microscopy Alexander Uliyanenkov said, “To support the introduction of QEMSCAN® to the Russian market, we will have a system installed for demonstration purposes in the Karpinsky Institute. This will allow us to provide hands-on demonstrations of this solution to Russian mining companies and research institutes.”
The distribution agreement builds on the existing strategic relationship between Intellection and Carl Zeiss SMT AG internationally for the development and supply of Zeiss’ scanning electron microscopes for use in the QEMSCAN® system.
The agreement will see Carl Zeiss Russia responsible for sales and service of Intellection’s analytical solutions throughout eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Intellection CEO Calvin Treacy said, “The agreement with Carl Zeiss Russia is another major step in the globalisation of Intellection.
“The mining industry in Russia has expanded significantly in recent times, and a number of Russian companies now have a presence on the world stage. With such an expanding mining economy, Intellection recognises the potential of the QEMSCAN® solution and its capabilities in this market.
“This arrangement provides our existing and future customers in the region with direct, local support from a long-standing and well-respected provider of high technology solutions and services.”
Zeiss’ Alexander Uliyanenkov said, “The QEMSCAN® automated mineralogical solution is a new technology for us, and we are excited at the prospect of providing this leading solution to the Russian market.
“QEMSCAN® is being used all over the world to allow companies to understand the mineralogy of materials, thereby improving recovery rates and ultimately increasing profitability.
“Having a system for demonstrations will assist in affirming to people the power of QEMSCAN® first hand.”
