Great Lakes Chemical and Laurel Industries Form Antimony Joint Venture

Great Lakes Chemical and Laurel Industries, part of Occidental Petroleum Corp. have agreed to form a 50:50 joint venture and combine their antimony businesses.

Together then plan to develop, manufacture and market antimony-based flame retardants, synergists and catalysts.

The new joint venture will become known as GLCC Laurel LLC and should become effective by the end of April. Manufacturing operations will be consolidated into the existing operations of Great Lakes in Mexico. Laurel Industries manufacturing operations will be absorbed into this plant, and they will close their antimony oxide operation based in Texas by the end of the year.
