Intellection has been ranked as Australia’s 7th top start-up company by respected business magazine BRW.
BRW’s annual Fast Starters list, released today, compares businesses founded after June 2003, and ranks them based on rapid expansion and financial performance.
“Everyone involved in Intellection has known from the start that we’re part of something special,” Intellection CEO Calvin Treacy said. “It’s very rewarding seeing that conviction validated independently by BRW across a distinguished national field.”
Since starting trading in October 2003, Intellection has effectively doubled its revenue each year, as the company has established its place as the world leading supplier of automated mineral analysis technology. Strong revenue growth is continuing for the 2007-08 financial year, which is a testament to the company’s unique offering in the strong mining services, and oil and gas markets.
In this time, Intellection has also grown from 4 staff to 140, and globalized its operations, with offices in Wales, UK, Colorado, USA, and Santiago, Chile, in addition to a network of distributors across all continents to service the mining, upstream oil and gas, coal and power utilities industries.
The company retains a strong Australian presence, with offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.
“In our first four years, we’ve put together the combination of a technology with limitless potential, and a fantastic team,” Mr Treacy said. “Our globalization has just begun — the next five years will see Intellection become a truly large-scale international enterprise.
“With the minerals and energy boom set to continue, the demand for advanced mineral analysis tools will only increase. As the world’s only specialist provider of automated, quantitative mineralogy solutions, Intellection is the right business at the right time.”
On a state-by-state basis, BRW Fast Starters ranked Intellection 1st in its home state of Queensland.
Intellection’s flagship technology, QEMSCAN®, was originally developed by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) from the 1970s through to the 1990s. Intellection was formed out of CSIRO in 2003 to further develop and commercialize QEMSCAN®.
