Dow Bolsters Building Materials Business with Roofing System Acquisition

Dow Building Solutions (DBS), a market-facing business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Stevens® Roofing Systems and Geomembrane Systems. On June 11, Dow announced its intention to acquire Stevens Roofing, which it will operate as Dow Roofing Systems LLC.

“Our acquisition of Stevens Roofing is significant to Dow Building Solutions from an overall portfolio strength and energy efficiency leadership perspective,” says Torsten Kraef, president and general manager of Dow Building Solutions. “We are very pleased that the transaction has been finalized.”

Stevens® Roofing Systems manufactures reinforced thermoplastic (TPO) single-ply roofing systems, including white membrane “cool roofs,” for commercial and industrial applications. Dow Building Solutions manufactures and markets rigid roofing insulation and adhesives and is also involved in the development of flexible solar roof shingles, as part of a U.S. Department of Energy Solar America Initiative (SAI).

The acquisition of Stevens Roofing provides Dow with a solid foothold in the commercial TPO roofing market, which is in a growth phase and less susceptible to cyclicality. It also supports Dow Building Solutions’ broader energy efficiency offering, which includes insulation, weatherization and exterior wall systems.
