PPG Acquire Chinese Automotive Coating Business

PPG Industries has acquired the automotive refinish coatings business of the Bonny Coating-Made Co., Ltd. (Bonny), in Guangzhou, China. The business will operate as an indirect subsidiary of PPG. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The assets to be acquired include the customer list, technology, all brands, trademarks and working capital. In addition, approximately 40 Bonny employees involved with sales, research and development, quality control, technical support and warehousing will transfer with the business.

“This acquisition will bolster PPG’s leadership position in the Chinese automotive refinish coatings industry,” said J. Rich Alexander, PPG senior vice president, coatings. “It will give us a more comprehensive and competitive product offering and extend our distribution network and customer base. In addition, this acquisition will enable PPG to enter and grow in other segments of the automotive refinish industry, consistent with our Asia/Pacific growth strategy. The increasing rates of passenger car ownership and vehicle population in China will contribute greatly to sustained future growth.”
