Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that it is featuring numerous examples of how green buildings start with Alcoa aluminum at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, which starts today in Boston. The Alcoa booth (#126) provides an overview of the many aluminum products that help the building and construction industry make strides in reducing energy consumption and emissions in their projects.
The Alcoa exhibit will feature a selection of buildings that have received world energy and environmental standard ratings, such as the LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the top U.S. standard for green building. These buildings include Kawneer architectural aluminum products such as the 7500 Wall® curtain wall and 1600 PowerShade®, a patented Building Integrated Photovoltaic sunshade. Alcoa’s formula for sustainability, which includes information on the company’s sustainability framework, and its business, community, global, and green building solutions is featured. Also highlighted is how aluminum factors in the cradle-to-cradle concept of eliminating all waste, because of the metal’s ability to “close the loop.” In addition, visitors will see examples of buildings that exemplify the many qualities of aluminum that make it an excellent building material including lightweight, formability, corrosion resistance, and its aesthetic appeal, and they will also have the opportunity to view green credentials Alcoa has achieved as a leader in sustainability.
“Sustainability is a core ingredient of Alcoa’s business strategy to leverage the lightweighting and recyclability of aluminum to help customers develop new sustainable products. Aluminum’s use as a building material is a smart investment over a potentially infinite product life cycle,” said Dave Schlendorf, President – Alcoa Building and Construction Systems.
The Alcoa booth was constructed using a variety of ecofriendly materials including custom curved, recyclable aluminum sheet panels and framing, recyclable ECOstone rubber flooring, LED lighting elements, Energy Star Rated computer monitors, acrylic low VOC paints and clear coating, and water base adhesives.
