PolyOne Plastisol and Flexible Vinyl Compounds Perfect for Toy Makers

PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a leading global provider of specialized polymer materials, services, and solutions, today announced its portfolio of non-phthalate and CPSIA-compliant plastisol and flexible vinyl compounds, which can help manufacturers and suppliers create toys and childcare products considered safe by consumers and regulators.

Available globally under the Geon™ brand name, this group of current products meets requirements set by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which will come into effect on February 10, 2009. The legislation includes a permanent ban on the use of three specific phthalate plasticizers as well as a temporary ban on three others used in the manufacture of toys or child care articles intended for children age 12 and under.

“Whether a manufacturer needs to comply with the regulation or is reacting to the changing demands of their marketplace, Geon vinyl products offer the full breadth of solutions, including custom formulations, to meet specific customer needs,” said Rob Rosenau, senior vice president and general manager of Performance Products and Solutions.

Dr. Cecil Chappelow, vice president, innovation and sustainability, and chief innovation officer, added, “This portfolio further highlights PolyOne’s capability and commitment to develop and provide sustainable solutions to address the needs of the market and the environment.”

PolyOne Geon plastisols and flexible vinyl compounds are used in a wide variety of industries, including consumer, healthcare, textile and packaging. Applications include outdoor recreational equipment, toys, child care articles, medical devices, and gaskets for food and beverage containers.
