Tata Steel Approve 2.4mtpa Steel Capacity Expansion

The Board of Directors of Tata Steel at its meeting held on 30th June, 2004,has approved the Company’s 2.4 million tonnes per annum steel capacity expansion programme at its Jamshedpur Works, at an estimated cost of Rs. 7800 crores, which would be met out of internal accruals and long term borrowings. This expansion project is likely to be completed by 2009.

Tata Steel, which currently produces 4.0 million tonnes at Jamshedpur, is undergoing a one million-tonne expansion programme, which would be completed by Sept.05. With the addition of 2.4 million tonnes, the capacity at Jamshedpur would increase up to 7.5 million tonnes.
