Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Xinyu Iron Steel & Co., Ltd in China to provide the engineering, supply of equipment and services for a new continuous annealing line. The annealing line forms part of a cold rolling mill for the production of high-grade strip for the automotive industry, and is scheduled to commence operation in April 2011. The order value is in the two-digit million euro range. In 2009, Siemens has already received orders from two other Chinese steel producers to supply electric and automation systems for processing lines.
The new continuous annealing line will be constructed at Xinyu in Jiangxi province and is designed to process 700,000 tonnes of steel strip of widths between 700 and 1500 millimeters and thicknesses from 0.2 to 2.0 millimeters. Siemens VAI is responsible for the complete engineering and design of the mechanical and electrical equipments, also will supply special machinery of crucial significance to product quality, including a ML21M welding system, a skin pass mill stand and a tension leveler, and a turret type side trimmer. The furnace will come from another vendor.
The automation equipment for the entire line, including the furnace, likewise forms part of the Siemens scope of supply. The solution concept is based on the Siroll PL platform, specially developed for processing lines. Siemens is also responsible for supervision of the installation work as well as for commissioning, acceptance-test support and customer training. In the past, Siemens has already supplied equipment for a hot strip mill and a coupled tandem pickling line to Xinyu Iron & Steel.
The main reasons the contract was awarded to Siemens were Siemens numerous reference projects for processing lines and the local presence of Siemens in China, which will ensure speedy and efficient services during construction phase as well as after start-up of the plant.
