New Transparent Polypropylene Resin for use in Food Containers and Baby Bottles

PolyMirae Company Ltd, a joint venture of LyondellBasell and Daelim, has announced the development of a new transparent PP resin, Clyrell RC5056. The new resin offers high heat resistance needed for disinfection and adds to the range of materials used in application for food containers, such as baby bottles.

"Clyrell RC5056 exhibits high gloss, high transparency and high heat-resistance and offers appropriate flowability for various processing methods such as injection molding, injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) and injection blow molding (IBM). Moreover, the resin is recyclable and meets FDA food contact cooking condition requirements," said GY Ha, AD/Innovation Manager of PolyMirae.

Inherent characteristics of Clyrell RC5056 include its high chemical inertness, which addresses a need in food containers requiring high durability and transparency such as baby bottles, high-end transparent containers, water purifiers in refrigerators and water containers. In addition, producers of high-end cosmetic containers and electronic products may also find use for Clyrell RC5056.

"The resin has very low haze value of 9 compared to 18 of the other standard polypropylene random copolymers and offers the benefit of potential cycle time reduction by 10 percent under the appropriate operational condition. Clyrell RC5056 is easy to process and provides an attractive cost/performance ratio," Ha added.
