Alcoa announced today that its ability to balance economic, environmental and social responsibility factors has qualified the company to be named a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index family for the fourth consecutive year.
Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) are the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The DJSI World family is limited to the top 10% of the largest 2,500 companies in the Dow Jones Global Index in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria.
"Alcoa's vision of being the best company in the world means that we must practice corporate sustainability, which contributes to our value as a company," said Alain Belda, Alcoa Chairman and CEO. "Alcoa's continued recognition by Dow Jones as a leader in sustainability is evidence that 120,000 Alcoans go to work and live our Values in each of our communities throughout the world."
Alcoa was first named a component of the DJSI in 2001. It joins more than 300 companies from 24 countries that lead their respective industries in sustainability.
