LINPAC Packaging, the plastic food packaging division of LINPAC Group, has won a 2009 UK Manufacturer of the Year Award. Another LINPAC Group company, LINPAC Storage Systems - a business unit of the LINPAC Allibert division - was also independently shortlisted for the same award.
The national awards were presented at a black-tie banquet held in London on 12 November, and hosted by Formula 1 racing legend, Sir Jackie Stewart. Organised by The Manufacturer magazine in association with RBS, they were attended by around 450 representatives from companies across all sectors of industry. The two LINPAC companies were shortlisted in the Operations & Maintenance category, where the award was sponsored by KPMG. Among the other category winners this year were Morgan Motor Company, Ginsters, Sheffield Forgemasters, Seven Seas, Alumet and Hozelock (also named overall Manufacturer of the Year).
LINPAC Packaging is a global market leader in the production of plastic packaging for the retail, catering, manufacturing, packing and food sectors, among others. With manufacturing facilities at Pontefract and St Helens in the UK, plus plants in a further 14 countries worldwide, the division has an unrivalled record of innovation. Since its formation as Lincolnshire Packaging some 50 years ago, it has introduced a stream of new products that have changed the face of manufacturing and retailing. Its recycling business is also the country's leading recycler of post-use rigid plastics - recycling more than 32,000 tonnes each year (more than LINPAC Packaging produces).
The second business unit, LINPAC Storage Systems, specialises in the manufacture and marketing of high quality adjustable pallet racking from its headquarters and factory in Milton Keynes, UK. It also makes and distributes shelving systems and accessories. The company has over 60 years' experience in the design, manufacture and installation of these products, and numbers Amazon, Argos, Asda, Marks & Spencer, Matalan, P&O Ferries and TNT among its major customers.
Commenting on the company's success, LINPAC Group CEO, Mike Arrowsmith, said: "LINPAC strives to be the best in all its endeavours, and it is gratifying that our achievements have been recognised in these national awards - particularly since two of our business units were independently shortlisted, and one of them then went on to win the top prize in its category. I am pleased that a major reason the award was given to LINPAC Packaging was its work in the area of health and safety.
"LINPAC operates in some highly competitive market sectors, so we never rest on our laurels. Our goal is to create real value for our customers by providing innovative, technologically advanced and high quality solutions that improve their performance, competitiveness and profitability."
