Hydro Automotive Structures in Holland, Michigan, will lay off approximately 160 salaried and hourly employees as the company adjusts its operations.
The layoffs are expected to take place in December 2004 and January 2005.
The adjustment will affect the operations and support functions related to the engine cradle program at the Holland plant. A writeoff of NOK 43 million was charged to Hydro's third-quarter results.
The affected employees were notified on October 22, 2004. Severance pay and benefits will be offered according to company policy and/or the current collective bargaining agreement.
To further support employees during this difficult transition, Hydro will offer job placement assistance.
Despite this setback for the short term, Hydro continues to lead the design and supply of aluminium automotive structures in North America, while building long-term relations with the automotive industry on a global basis.
