Successful Modernization Of The Hot Rolling Mill at North Star Bluescope Steel

SMS Demag AG, Germany, has completed the design, manufacture and supply of five hydraulic loopers for North Star BlueScope Steel, Delta, Ohio/USA. Just half a year following order placement, the first looper was installed in Stand F2 in August and successfully commissioned. A preliminary commissioning test enabled extremely short shutdown and commissioning times for this part of the modernization.

North Star BlueScope Steel had placed the order in February 2004. The five hydraulic loopers are mounted on the mill stands to ensure accurate alignment. This is necessary for correct and precise strip guidance to the next stand, e. g. to thin strip rolling.

The installation of the other four loopers is scheduled for the next two months.
