YOFC to Use DeSolite Supercoatings Technology for EasyBand Fiber Production

DSM Desotech, the global leader in the development and supply of UV-curable fiber optic materials, announced today that China's leading manufacturer of optical fiber, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Company Ltd (YOFC), will adopt latest-generation DeSolite Supercoatings™ technology in the manufacture of their EasyBand® product line.

DSM Desotech introduced DeSolite Supercoatings™ to the market in 2008.  In May 2009, YOFC and DSM announced an agreement for the use of DeSolite Supercoatings™ technology in YOFC-produced fiber.  YOFC supplies 25% percent of the optical fiber to China's telecom industry.  Since then, the two companies have worked closely together to provide the China market an optical fiber product with an increased lifetime and reliability.  The solution is a DSM-designed DeSolite Supercoatings™ system for YOFC based on the design and fabrication process of YOFC fiber which demonstrates increased dynamic fatigue (nd) performance, which is directly linked to extending fiber lifetime.

"YOFC's EasyBand® fiber protected with DeSolite Supercoatings™ provides the most reliable solution for long haul, metro, and access fiber," said Han Qingrpong, YOFC Strategy & Marketing Manager.  "This new system helps us to deliver the highest performing fiber with consistent properties and a longer lifespan than earlier generation solutions, therefore providing the ultimate protection for the investments of China's leading network service providers."

The benefit of extended fiber life is important in all fiber environments.  It becomes even more critical in applications in which more stress is put on the fiber, such as in tight bends, where the fiber must have the strength to provide resistance.  In addition to increased Nd performance, DSM's patented DeSolite Supercoatings™ also demonstrates a significant technological advancement in microbend sensitivity that minimizes a fiber's signal loss over time and distance especially for longer wavelengths, as well as in mechanical properties that increase fiber robustness in all temperature extremes.

"Increased fiber lifetime is only one of the key performance benefits that DeSolite Supercoatings™ offers," said Rob Crowell, DSM Desotech Vice President of Fiber Optic Materials.  "Longer lifetime, in combination with minimized attenuation for greater signal reliability, field robustness even under extreme conditions, and low microbend performance that allows for expansion to higher wavelengths all serve to create networks that are reliable and ready for the future.  In addition, longer lifetime can save telecom network owners millions of dollars in total system savings providing the best performance and cost effective solutions for network future-proofing."
