SMS Demag to Supply Ural Steel with Electric Arc Furnace

SMS Demag AG, Germany, has received an order from Ural Steel AG (formerly Nosta), Russia, to supply a 120-t electric arc furnace for the Novotroitsk works. The scope of supply also covers a dust collecting facility, the modernization of the existing bin system, the engineering for the hot metal charging facilities as well as the entire electrical equipment and automation, including Level 2 Hot metal will be the preferred charge material used in the new electric arc furnace. This furnace will replace electric arc furnace No. 2 (100 t) and provide the slab caster, which was likewise supplied and successfully commissioned by SMS Demag in October 2004, with an annual capacity of 900,000 tons.

The commissioning of the electric arc furnace and the accessory equipment has been scheduled for March 2006.
