Inspired to fulfill an unmet mobile water filtration need, Applica Water Products LLC, a marketer and distributor of water filtration products, used Eastman Tritan™ copolyester for the new Clear2Go™ water filtration bottle.
Tritan, a new-generation copolyester, balances the properties of clarity, toughness, and heat and chemical resistance, and is manufactured without bisphenol A (BPA).
New Clear2Go™ water filtration bottle
The Clear2Go bottle includes a replaceable filter that attaches to the cap, removing impurities in up to 100 gallons of tap water per filter. The patent-pending bottle design includes an easy-squeeze system for fast water flow, pushing the water through the filter upon exit and eliminating sipping.
“We recognized the need to increase the availability of convenient, out-of-home filtered water with a durable water filtration bottle,” said Dave Smith, director of sales and marketing, Applica. “Eastman Tritan™ copolyester allowed us to create a premium product that elevates the consumer’s perception of drinking from a reusable bottle. Unlike other traditional plastic materials, such as styrene acrylonitrile and polycarbonate, Tritan provides an advantage because it combines superior toughness and increased design freedom in one BPA-free material.”
Applica utilized the clarity and tintability of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester to create the aesthetically pleasing, 24-ounce Clear2Go bottle, available in blue, red and silver. The design innovation and material advantages of Tritan make the easy-squeeze system possible without compromising clarity, taste or odor, which is not always possible with squeezable bottles made of other materials, such as polypropylene and polyethylene.
Applica also selected Eastman Tritan™ copolyester for the Clear2Go bottle because it provided a dishwasher-durable bottle with high heat, stain and odor resistance. Even considering repeated washing and everyday wear and tear, the durability and inherent toughness of Tritan allows for an extended bottle life cycle, increasing overall product sustainability.
To assess the durability and impact strength of the Clear2Go bottle, Applica implemented bottle drop tests. After initial tests prompted bottle design improvements, Eastman experts offered hands-on technical support that helped Applica ensure its final product met stringent third-party drop test criteria.
“In our experience, the reputation of Eastman as a supplier of quality resins and exceptional customer support is well-deserved,” Smith said. “The timely support Eastman experts provided our project development team in the United States and engineers in China was a vital ingredient to the project success.”
The Clear2Go bottle is available at mass merchandisers, supermarkets and sporting goods retailers.
