Eastman Completes REACH Registration for its Non-Phthalate Plasticizers

Eastman Chemical Company announces that it has received full registration for its Eastman 168™ non-phthalate plasticizer in accordance with the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation.

This registration entitles Eastman, to import, manufacture or use Eastman 168 in quantities exceeding 1000 tons per year – the highest volume registration band under REACH.

“Receiving registration for Eastman 168™ non-phthalate plasticizer under REACH is a welcomed achievement to Eastman’s plasticizer business,” says Dr. Steve Cullen, plasticizer business manager, Eastman. “Eastman is fully confident in the safety and utility of Eastman 168 and we hope that this registration helps to reiterate our commitment to the plasticizer industry, both in the EU and globally.”

A versatile plasticizer for PVC, Eastman 168™ non-phthalate plasticizer has a long and growing track record of regulatory approvals. It has been demonstrated to be a ready, drop-in replacement for some of the most widely used ortho-phthalate products that are currently experiencing regulatory pressure in markets around the world. It finds particular utility in sensitive applications where brand owners are looking for compliance and differentiation, while continuing to provide the same high-performance products for their customers.

Eastman 168™ was the first of many non-phthalate plasticizers Eastman has submitted for REACH registration. Having recently acquired Genovique Specialties Corporation and its family of benzoate plasticizer products, Eastman is completing REACH registration for its full portfolio of non-phthalate plasticizers.
