The Swatch Group Inks Licensing Deal to Use Liquidmetal Alloy Technology

Liquidmetal Technologies, pioneer in the development of powders, coatings, bulk composites and metals, has inked an exclusive licensing deal with the Swatch Group, a Swiss-based producer of finished watches.

As per the licensing deal, Swatch will use the Liquidmetal alloy technology globally. The company has utilized the Liquidmetal alloy technology for its Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean in 2009 and for its Breguet ‘Reveil musical’ in 2010. The deal will allow the company to use the innovative technology for its complete series of watches. The contract will widen the scope for both the companies.

Liquidmetal Technologies’ alloys are class of materials that feature amorphous atomic structure, which is different from the crystalline structure. These materials can be processed by technologies similar to that of plastics and exhibit distinctive characteristics with respect to shaping and thus they are ideal for the timepiece industry applications. Liquidmetal Technologies is an expert in the amorphous alloys’ technology and development.
