Producer and supplier of precision seals, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has created a patented polyurethane compound called Zurcon Z25. It exhibits all the properties of Zurcon grade Z20 with an increased operating temperature of up to +130° C or +270° F.
The Zurcon Z25 features low compression set and high extrusion resistance properties and thus is suitable for all types of hydraulic uses that demand performance at high temperatures. The polyurethane material offers extended operating life and can be utilized in sealing applications of heavy-duty cylinders such as cylinders used in high-temperature painting procedures and mobile and industrial applications with restricted cooling systems.
The polyurethane compound is a self-energizing material. In the absence of a back-up ring, its operating pressure is up to 5,800 psi or 40 MPa. It is based on diphenylmethane diisocyanate material and is ideal for rotary uses such as swivel joints in which heat is produced by low speeds and high pressures.
The Fluid Power Segment Manager at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Americas, Joe Woods commented that the Zurcon Z25 is a major breakthrough in the polyurethane sealing technology. It enables the production of ultra-performance seals, which in turn enhance the device performance.
