RPC Introduces Retortable Barrier Containers for Foodservice Applications

RPC Containers Corby has introduced an improved line of retortable barrier containers for the food industry. The ‘Uncan’ range offers enhanced durability, food safety and considerable cost savings by replacing large format glass jars and metal cans.

The Uncan line is developed using the company’s Thermic Ultra jar design. The retortable barrier jars are available in wide mouth and huge volume capacity, making them suitable for foodservice applications. The jars are available in American Gallon (Amgall), 5 kg and 3 kg.

The Uncan body is based on a special structure of thermic ribs, a proprietary technology of RPC Coby. The thermic ribs assist contraction and expansion during the cooling and heating phases, making the Uncan to demonstrate the same processing quality of glass or metal cans during pasteurisation.

The Uncan’s rugged design and wide-mouth neck can be processed by utilizing current machinery. The jars, with its lightweight structure, offer considerable reduction in packaging costs. When unopened, the operating life of the barrier jars is 18 months. Later, the jar can be resealed for further use and eliminates the transfer of contents into another jar.

The container is closed by a polypropylene cap produced by RPC Halstead using bespoke injection moulding. The cap’s solitary start thread needs a complete turn to open to avoid accidental spillage, an essential feature in foodservice industry.
