The Costa Rican Institute of Electricity, which oversees the Reventazón hydroelectric facility construction, has chosen CEMEX, a global supplier of building materials, as the main cement supplier for the first phase of the project in Costa Rica.
As per the deal, CEMEX will deliver 50,000 tons of cement for the first phase of the $1.2 billion hydroelectric plant, which will produce 311 MW of power upon its completion in 2016. CEMEX will supply special cement products that have enhanced reliability, improved workability and low heat hydration in order to fulfill the criteria set by the institute.
CEMEX runs two grinding mills and three cement plants with a total annual production capacity of 3.3 million metric tons. The facilities are situated in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. The company has 7 aggregates quarries and 30 ready-mix concrete facilities in the Central American region. It manufactures 11 mortar and cement products under its SANSON portfolio. Repello Proyectable and Pegacerámica Premium are the two latest products in the portfolio.
Repello Proyectable is suitable for the spackle’s first layer on concrete surfaces. It requires a spackling machine for application in order to improve productivity and decrease wastage. Pegaceramica Premium is a blend of latex-based additives, special aggregates and cement. It is suitable for attaching flooring with no or low absorption materials such as marble and porcelain.
