Excellent Packaging & Supply, supplier of nature-based, biodegradable, eco-friendly packaging products for foodservice and other uses, has proclaimed that it now provides fully degradable paper bags, lids and cups to Blue Bottle Coffee, a coffeemaker based in Oakland, California.
The paper cups imprinted with Blue Bottle logo come in both 12-ounce and 8-ounce sizes. The cups as well as the matching bags are being utilized at Blue Bottle’s all five café shops in New York and California. Customers’ response was also positive towards the new initiative. With the utilization of compostable paper lids and cups, Blue Bottle now redirects 20% of its waste to recycle, with 70% to compost and merely 10% to landfill.
Compostable Paper Cup
The compostable paper cups and lids are made of heat-resistant crystallized polylactide (CPLA), a bioplastic obtained from cornstarch. The paper cups and lids use a special laminating method that joins a CPLA liner to numerous layers of completely compostable paper. The resulting end product is a strong and heat-resistant cup with aesthetic properties. The paper bags are produced from completely compostable, Forestry Stewardship Council-certified recycled paper, which considerably reduces Blue Bottle’s environmental footprint.
Founder of Blue Bottle Coffee, James Freeman, commented that the compostable paper cups, lids and bags offer better performance and look, and assist the company to reduce its landfill waste.
