Producer of chemicals and glass, Carlex Glass America has closed the purchase of two Tennessee-based operations from Zeledyne for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition includes a distribution business for automotive replacement glass in Lebanon and an automotive windshield and float glass production facility in Nashville.
The purchased operations will act as subsidiaries of Japan-based Central Glass, which manufactures automotive glass for new equipment and replacement purposes in Vonore, Tennessee. Carlex Glass and Carlex Glass America will be doing business as Carlex.
The President of Carlex Glass America, Masami Wakatsuki stated that the acquisition would expand the company’s automotive glass business as well its production capability of automotive-quality flat glass.
With the purchase, Carlex is now the exclusive supplier of Carlite-brand automotive replacement glass in the United States.
Wakatsuki continued that Carlex operations in Tennessee would have over 1,000 workers, including some Zeledyne staff from Allen Park, Michigan. The company plans to run an automotive technical center in Detroit.
