LaFarga Group and Steel Dynamics have formed a new collaboration to construct a facility for the production of copper wire rod from used copper.
The partnership will function under the SDI LaFarga name. Study of prospective areas in Allen County, Indiana is in progress. By 2013, the new initiative is likely to create 35 new jobs in managerial and production areas.
The joint venture will use numerous grades of used copper waste as its main resource for manufacturing greater margin copper wire rod. Steel Dynamics will supply a portion of the required recycled copper. Previously, the company had been exporting a huge portion of copper waste to China.
Mark Millett, CEO and President of Steel Dynamics, expressed his pleasure in including LaFarga’s latest production technology in the new facility, depicting Steel Dynamics’ dedication to Allen County and Northeast Indiana.
The CEO of LaFarga Group, Oriol Guixa expressed his happiness in partnering with Steel Dynamics and stated that the new venture marks the company’s initial expansion in the U.S.
