Applied Seals North America, a sealing product specialist, has opened a new facility at its Silicon Valley headquarters. The applications and design center helps to solve issues associated with o-rings and other type of seals.
It also enhances the abilities of the company to recommend superior application-specific sealing solutions to its customers and to design innovative seals for production of 22 nm semiconductor technology.
The Silicon Valley center includes an applications lab that supports chip manufacturers and wafer-fabrication system suppliers to identify and solve sealing problems. Applied Seals North America’s President and General Manager, Dalia Vernikovsky said that the new applications and design center enables the company to provide perfect solutions for a specific sealing problem.
The facility is equipped with a wide range of metrology equipment, including CCTV-coupled microscopes, gauges, magnifying optical comparators and calipers. This supports Applied Seals North America to carry out exact measurement of both standard and custom glands and seals. The surface roughness is also evaluated within 50 nm. The measurement data is further utilized for finite element analysis of sealing solutions.
The center can also be utilized for designing new sealing products for innovative production processes such as deposition of materials like hafnium and immersion lithography. In addition, it can also be used for producing prototype seals in small volumes before mass production at the company’s Taiwan plant.
