Mirel Bioplastic Chosen for UCAN’s New Kitchen Compost Bags

UCAN Products, developer of environmentally friendly consumer products, has chosen Mirel bioplastic, a renewable material, from Metabolix and Archer Daniels Midland joint venture company, Telles.

UCAN Products will utilize the material in its new range of three-gallon kitchen compost bags. Mirel has been selected by UCAN as it is durable and has quick composting ability. The new bags fit all kitchen compost bins of standard sizes.

The first Mirel-based compost bin bags are now available for purchase from UCAN Products. The bags have received certification from the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) that they are compostable based on ASTM 6400 specification. Production of the compost bags is carried out by Lakeside Plastics using Mvera B5002 compostable film from Telles.

UCAN Products’ Founder and President, Carolyn Yecies Heller said that the company has chosen Telles’ Mirel bioplastic as it is high-quality biobased material and is environmentally friendly. The product eliminates the need for compost facility to discard waste material from the bin bags. The distribution of UCAN’s compost bags is a major step in the growth of Telles’ Mirel-based product line.
