Dow Chemical will discuss the details of one-part adhesive technology at the Week of Learning 2011 event of Pressure Sensitive Tape Council.
The technology signifies an innovative approach to manufacture protective masking films. The event is scheduled on May 12 in Orlando, Florida. Dow Chemical’s pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) keeps the films firmly on products and shields glass, metal and plastic surfaces till they are set for use.
A paper titled, “One-Part Adhesives for Protective Masking” will be presented by David Keely of Dow Packaging and Converting.
The one-part formulation of Dow Chemical overcomes a number of disadvantages of two-part adhesives, which limit pot life when the crosslinker is included. This in turn affects the production efficiency and flexibility of converters. However, the one-part adhesive does not have pot life issues and is easy to use, resulting in exceptional production efficiency and flexibility.
The use of protective masking films is rapidly growing because of increased robotic assembly and longer shipping distances. They are used during production, packaging and shipping. Keely will discuss how the one-part technology provides low adhesion property to masked surfaces and firm attachment to low energy polyethylene films.
