Axion International, one of the leading providers of cost-effective infrastructure and building products, has started the delivery of its first test order for recycled structural composite (RSC) in Mexico. The order has been awarded by Mexico’s largest rail line, Ferromex.
The installation of RSC test order will be carried out in Mexico’s several coastal regions to assess the capabilities of the Axion’s materials in salt-air environments and harsh weather conditions. Axion is looking forward to exceed Ferromex’s expectations in the test so that it can continue to supply its eco-friendly substitutes for concrete and wood railroad ties.
Ferromex owns over 8,000 km of main tracks that include 55% of concrete ties and 45% of wood ties. This network connects major cities in Mexico and five border points with the U.S., four Pacific Ocean sea ports and two ports on the Gulf of Mexico.
Axion has created RSC in collaboration with Materials Sciences and Engineering Department of Rutgers University. The product is non-toxic, inert and fully recyclable. It is also resistant to insect infestation, does not leech toxic chemicals, decreases energy costs and is free from warping. Axion’s RSC is lightweight compared to conventional materials and makes transportation cost-effective.
