A private equity company, The Gores Group announces that they have officially opened the Cosmo Specialty Fibers (CSF) mill, a high purity cellulose mill that had been purchased from Weyerhaeuser in October 2005 after its closure. The fiber mill is located in the Grays Harbor County, Washington.
CSF has been reopened in a region that depends considerably on the lumber industry. According to Alec Gores, founder and chairman of the Gores Group, they have carried out deep analysis on the mill and it has been found that the mill is capable of producing large volumes of high quality acetates. The reopened Cosmo Specialty Fibers’ mill can operate with the use of recycled liquors and biomass that are extracted from the digesting process. It uses less fossil fuel and Hemlock, a renewable fiber for dissolving pulp.
Mike Entz, CEO of Cosmo Specialty Fibers, has stated that with the financial and operational support from the Gores Group, Cosmo Specialty Fibers can produce high quality products and better serve the economy.
