Smorgon Steel has launched The Smorgon Steel Great Scrap Round-Up™, an initiative to enable rural and regional Australia to Clean Up, Cash In and Help Out!
Under the program, Smorgon Steel will purchase obsolete metal farm equipment and other scrap metal from farmers either for cash or for Smorgon Steel Bucks, which are exchangeable for Smorgon Steel fencing and other steel products. The farmers can also choose to donate the entire value of their scrap to their nominated volunteer bush fire brigade.
No matter what option they choose, Smorgon Steel will donate an additional $15 for every tonne of scrap collected to the farmer's nominated local volunteer fire brigade. It is estimated that there may be up to one million tonnes of scrap in rural and regional Australia able to be delivered into The Smorgon Steel Great Scrap Round-Up™.
The campaign's Patron is well-known Australian singer Lee Kernaghan, and the program is supported by Clean Up Australia.
