Baosteel Heavy Plate Mill Started

Together with the customer, Baosteel Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. in Baoshan, PR China, SMS Demag has commissioned the newly erected 5-m heavy plate mill six weeks ahead of schedule on March 1, 2005. It was supplied by a consortium under the leadership of SMS Demag. The mill will produce plates with a thickness ranging between 5 and 150 mm (400 mm in the second stage of construction), widths from 900 to 4900 mm and lengths between 3 and 52 m.

The mill stand is rated for a summation rolling force of 108 MN and, among others, includes roll bending and shifting equipment including CVCPLUS technology.

SMS Demag's supply included the core components of the mill with the corresponding process models.
