Ranger Steel, a Houston-based independent distributor of steel plates, has launched its first distribution center in the southeastern United States in Memphis, Tennessee.
Ranger Steel has leased the space for the new distribution center situated at the mid-river terminal spanning 35 acres on the Mississippi River from Kinder Morgan, an operator of warehouse storage and logistics. The site is strategically located to access truck, rail and barge transportation.
Moreover, Ranger Steel will contract shipping services and operations in Memphis to Kinder Morgan. The Memphis facility has been receiving steel shipments since August 2011. The shipments include three grades of steel plates such as regular carbon plate, high strength, low alloy and pressure vessel.
Ranger Steel’s other distribution centers are strategically located at Fort Worth, Los Angeles Basin, Tulsa, and the Port of Houston. The company supplies steel products to numerous industries, including storage tanks, industrial and commercial construction, heavy plate fabrication, heat exchanger and vessel, energy and ship building.
Ron Whitley, who serves as President at Ranger Steel, stated that the company is always trying to be in close proximity to its customers. By opening a distribution facility in Memphis, the company will serve its customers in the market quickly and cost- effectively. The company’s steel distribution in Memphis is supported by its huge average inventory of 45,000 t of steel plates per day, he added.
