A new rigid plastic container plant will be established by Sonoco, a packaging specialist, in New Albany, Ohio. The new facility will produce packaging and parts for personal care products. It will be equipped with numerous PET injection cum blow molding and injection molding lines.
The overall cost for the plant construction and equipment installation is estimated to be about $15 million. The Ohio-based rigid plastic container facility will commence operations by the end of the second quarter, 2012.
In addition, the company operates an injection molding and blow-molding food-grade facility in Columbus, Ohio. Sonoco Plastics manufactures engineered extruded and molded containers, trays and spools; mono- and multi-layer blow-molded jars and bottles; and thermoformed trays and cups. The company operates 28 plastics facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.
The VP and General Manager of Sonoco Plastics, Steve Gendreau noted that the new facility is mainly established to produce plastic containers and supplies for Limited Brands’ sourcing and logistics division, Mast Global. Limited Brands is one of Sonoco’s major clients and with the development of new rigid plastic container plant in Ohio, both the companies will continue their long-term relationship. Limited Brands represents certain familiar brands in the Beauty and Home Care industry including Henri Bendel, LaSenza, Pink, Bath and Body Works and Victoria’s Secret. Once construction is completed, the new Ohio facility will manufacture products for Bath and Body Works stores.
