Metso, a worldwide supplier of sustainable technology and services for the pulp and paper, recycling, automation, power generation, construction and mining industries, has received a large order for its metal shredding technology from Vyksa Steel Works, one of the oldest metallurgical centers in Russia. Metso will supply a 7,500 kW metal shredder plant and the delivery will be finished in the second quarter of 2012.
Metso's metal shredding technology supports the Russian Vyksa Steel Works to manufacture pure and superior quality raw material for the production of steel products. The shredder plant will be used to process clean ferrous shredded scrap that are produced from miscellaneous car bodies and scrap. The plant also comprises a non-ferrous and ferrous processing line, which has a capacity to produce nearly 1 Mt per year.
The shredder technology can save over 70% of the energy consumption required for the steelmaking process. In addition, use of clean shredded scrap as an alternative to iron ore in steelmaking considerably minimizes release of pollutants to the environment by 86%. Thus, a significant method of saving natural resources is by scrap metal shredding, purification and separation for reuse.
Metso has supplied approximately 30% of the metal scrap processing equipment in the world and it has been noted that more than 150 Mt of metal scrap is being processed through Metso’s equipment per year.
