Ozone systems from ITT, a high-technology engineering and manufacturing company, has signed a $9.2 million contract for the supply of ozone systems to the Fibria pulp and paper mill’s expansion project in Jacarei, Brazil. The pulp bleaching line of the facility will be integrated with the WEDECO ozone systems from ITT.
The Brazilian pulp mill produces 1.1 Mt of bleached pulp annually and 91% of it is exported. The mill extension will boost the pulp production by over 15%. In addition, the expansion increases the total ozone production volume by 50% to 18 t of ozone per day. The Fibria mill uses ozone to bleach 3,600 t of eucalyptus pulp per day by feeding two individual fiber production lines. Each production line is equipped with specific ozone mixing systems for medium and high pulp consistencies.
ITT has been recognized as a reference solution provider as they have more experience in pulp bleaching applications and enduring and high efficiency equipment. The company will meet the expectations of the customers in the current project by offering excellent performance in terms of process efficiency, environmental performance and investment and operating costs.
ITT has decided to spin off its Water and Defense businesses before the end of 2011 and the new entity will be named as Xylem. Xylem will have operations in over 150 countries and will provide products and technologies for analytical instrumentation and flow control; commercial and residential water; and wastewater and water.
