Magnesita Refratários, a vertically integrated refractory producer, has planned to invest to expand the operating capabilities and production capacity of its facility in York, Pennsylvania. The expansions will increase the capacity to an additional 28,000 t.
The investment also supports new innovation and growth and contributes to the company’s growth in the North American steel and industrial sectors in future.
Magnesita Refratários’ investment will mainly help to increase the production of refractory basic bricks. The expansion work has commenced, which includes installation of two new presses. The first press will be installed by 2012. The presses will support the launch of a new series of mag alumina carbon products (MAC) used for steel ladle linings. In addition, they help to meet the increasing demand for mag carbon and dolomite products that are used in a wide range of industrial and steel applications.
The MAC products employ a novel brick technology of Magnesita and deliver higher refractory performance compared to the traditional alumina mag carbon (AMC) products. The company will leverage its Brazilian high quality magnesite reserves to provide the necessary raw material for the expanded York facility.
Thus, the investment supports the company to enhance its refractory product offerings to meet the needs of the local steel and industrial clients.
