DuPont Glass Laminating Solutions announces commercial availability of the popular DuPont SentryGlas high-performance safety glass interlayer in a new, 35-mil (0.89 mm) roll form to increase the speed and convenience of laminating stronger safety glass for architectural uses.
"Because it's up to 100 times stiffer and 5 times tougher than traditional laminating materials, DuPont SentryGlas has become popular among structural glazing specialists and leading-edge glass laminators," said Ron Hull, DuPont global business director for advanced interlayers. "While SentryGlas interlayer sales growth has outpaced other interlayer product growth during the past decade, many laminators were asking for roll stock to further expand their use of this innovative safety material and we're happy to respond."
DuPont™ SentryGlas® high-performance interlayer now available in 35-mil rolled form, helping glass laminators use ionoplast sheeting for a growing range of safety glazing systems and architectural projects.
SentryGlas interlayers are now available to laminators in flat sheet form, in thicknesses of
35-, 60-, 90- and 120-mil, and as rolled sheeting, at 35-mil thickness. The new, rolled sheeting comes in standard sizes of 48 inches (1.21m), 60 inches (1.52m) and 72 inches (1.83 m) wide by 200 meters, and 60 inches (1.52 m) wide by 50 meters, depending on customer requirements.
"Many laminators will find useful handling and productivity advantages when using rolled SentryGlas interlayer, versus flat-stored sheets," explained Hull. "Because the 35-mil rolled stock is so convenient for them, some laminators plan to use it in multiple plies to meet thicker interlayer requirements."
The new roll-stock version of SentryGlas is made using the same raw materials as flat sheets, so laminated glass strength and structural advantages realized with the new roll stock are expected to be the same as found previously with SentryGlas in properly laminated structures.
DuPont SentryGlas interlayers have been a key element in some of the most noteworthy laminated glass projects in the world, including Apple retail stores worldwide, rooftop deck rails at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and specially enabled glass structures, such as the Willis Tower Skydeck in Chicago and the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York. The interlayer's extra stiffness and strength gives SentryGlas ionoplast a routine advantage in safer glass balustrades, overhead canopies, clear facades, high-security applications and glass designed for use in extreme wind zones.
