US-based Fishery Products International (FPI), a division of High Liner Foods, is to use recycled fibre- based Kraft packaging for its products.
The new packaging has been manufactured through a partnership between Scotia Recycling, a company specialising in recycling used cartons, Minas Basin, which uses the re-pulping process to make completely recycled linerboards and Nova Scotia-based Maritime Paper Products. FPI’s logo along with the trademark blue banner has been printed on the packaging with the use of water-based inks that are free of metal. All steps have been taken to ensure that the new materials do not alter the basic structure of the packaging. The Eco-Advance Certification logo on the new packaging is a further proof of the fact that 100% recyclable materials have been used.
Earlier FPI was using corrugated case masters. The company made this conversion as part of its efforts to make a commitment to achieving sustainability in its business. The company has already converted packaging for its products based in the US and is now in the process of converting packaging materials for its overseas products. According to Jim LaBelle, the transition to sustainable packaging is part of its new program called, “We Sea What’s Next,” which was launched in its latest website. Brands under FPI include Mirabel and Viking, which is offered to a wide range of customers such as national distributors, restaurants and regional players.
