US-based wind turbine composite component manufacturer, Molded Fiber Glass (MFG) Companies has announced that it will provide spare parts and replacement parts for old turbines. The company will provide nacelles, nose cones, replacement blades, FRP components and hatch covers to operators that run old fleets.
MFG presently owns 15 manufacturing sites of which five are operational exclusively for composite parts of wind turbines. Although, initially the company was supplying composite parts to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) the demand for replacement and spare parts increased as many operators faced the need to replace parts due to bad weather or normal wear and tear.
Under these circumstances, the required spare parts would not be available as the OEMs would no longer manufacture it or they would no longer be an operational business. To prevent such a situation, MFG creates spare parts from the tooling of the spare part from the customer. This process does not affect the original spare part in any way.
The company also supports customers who resell pre-owned wind turbines. Such customers usually acquire small wind turbines from bigger projects when the projects do not require them any longer. After these parts are reconditioned they can be resold to communities, universities and ranchers. The company has recently supplied 15 nacelle covers and spinners and 50 replacement hatches to a locally based wind farm.
