BAC has prepared and published a report titled as “Alkyd Resins: European Union Market Outlook 2011 and Forecast till 2016” in The Market Publishers, which analyzes and reviews the Alkyd Resins market rate in the European Union.
A complicated oil-modified polyester material defines the alkyd resins, which find its application as a film-forming agent in few clear coatings and paints. Also, these resins ensure gloss and high-durability when it is used in broad range of products employed in contractor, decorative and maintenance paints. The alkyd coatings represent the leadership of the EU coating business.
In the European Union, the acrylic resin’s demand follows the declining trend. The requirement of the acrylic resins by the year 2010 was about 471,800 t. The use of alkyd resin materials is reduced by 30% in the last four years from 2006 to 2010. The reduction in the use of alkyd resins is mainly due to lowering of EU construction industry, and economic recession and partially due to the end of acrylic coatings demand, which helps in favoring the use of materials that are environmental-friendly. The producers of European Union are mainly concentrated to the domestic business. Out of the total production output, 7-10% is shared by the Export supplies. As a result the decline in the demand will cause an end to the domestic production.
About 37% of total EU output and consumption is shared by Germany, an insider of EU alkyd resins business unit. Germany has outputted alkyd resins of about 190,000 t and exported 45,000 t in the year 2010. The production of alkyd resins in Italy and France is covered by the other important Western European manufacturing plants.
