Online research company, Lux Research has released a report titled “Fighting Corrosion, Friction and Fouling: The Power of Protective Coatings”. The company has covered the various coatings that prevent and treat corrosion, friction and fouling.
According to the report, the market for protective coatings is still regulated by factors such as environment regulations and sensitive prices despite the ability of protective coatings to prevent corrosion, friction and fouling of industrial equipment.
Lux Research applied tools such as the Lux Innovation Grid to find out the position of protective coating companies in the market and rate the developers of material. Lux Research also carried out positioning of companies that specialise in deposition process, manufacturing methods and new coating materials in its grid based on a method called Technical Value and Business Execution. The research company analysed the maturity of each company. After applying such research tools, it concluded that the company Modumetal is a new entrant to the dominant companies list due to its nanolaminate approach, its recent joint venture with Steel Dynamics, addition of Siemens as a new customer and enhanced production line.
The thermally sprayed nanocomposite ceramic metallic coatings and metal claddings from Mesocoat are the best possible alternative to the chrome which is toxic in nature. This factor and its recent deal with Petrobras have enabled Mesocoat also to enter the list of dominant companies. Nanogate Technologies which specialises in sol-gel polymer coating has become one of the prominent companies in the market due to its alliances with Bosch, Dow Corning, GEA Air Treatment and Clariant. The research company also saw great potential in the new medetomidine based coating developed by I-Tech which is known to be a sedative for animals and highly anti-fouling.
