Almac’s Pharma Services business unit has announced the expansion of its commercial packaging operations and has invested $10 million in a modern commercial plant, whose area is 100,000 sq. ft., in Pennsylvania.
With over 30 years of commercial packaging expertise from its UK plants, approved by FDA/MHRA and with its reputation of providing reliable, high-quality, and inexpensive commercial packaging solutions, it is now possible for clients to use this expertise for a US-based operation.
According to David Downey, Almac’s Vice President for Commercial Operations, the company has planned steps for forming an US-based commercial packaging services operation. The company has been producing and packaging the US products in bulk at its UK facility, for several years. Through the expansion of the Pennsylvania facility, the company can potentially deliver these packaging services to the US markets and helps to save the expenses and decrease the risks during supply.
After completing the feasibility design work and assessment, the company has started the renovation of the facility and has scheduled the system handover for Fall 2012.
The company will supply primary and secondary commercial packaging of capsules and tablets in blisters, bottles, hospital unit dose formats and wallets, together with packaging and secondary labeling of biopharmaceutical presentations.
