PBI-Dansensor, a developer of quality control and quality assurance equipment for Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), has signed an acquisition agreement with MOCON, a provider and innovator of solutions for package integrity, package cost reduction, package safety, sustainability, shelf-life evaluation, and permeation testing instruments and laboratory services.
Under the terms of the agreement, MOCON will acquire Denmark-based PBI-Dansensor and the transaction is expected to be closed on April 2, 2012.
Dansensor delivers a full range of leak detection equipment, analyzers and gas mixers for the foods, beverages and pharmaceuticals industries. The company sells its products globally through distribution channels. Through the acquisition, MOCON will be able to considerably enhance its presence in Europe, mainly in the MAP technology market. MAP has been used for increasing the shelf-life of the food products by minimizing microbial growth and negative effects of oxidation. In addition, the packaging reduces changes in aroma, flavor, taste and color without using artificial preservatives and other methods.
The acquisition will expand MOCON’s package testing product portfolio. A series of gas mixers from Dansensor fills an existing gap in MOCON’s products, whereas the Danish company’s on-line and off-line package leak detectors and on-line and off-line headspace analyzers will extend MOCON’s current product offerings. The integration of technologies from both the companies along with MOCON’s strong intellectual property portfolio will enable continuation of the revolutionary product offerings to the market.
Robert L. Demorest, Chairman, President, and CEO of MOCON, stated that PBI-Dansensor’s MAP product line fits perfectly with their offerings and also their global distribution network will enable several new products of MOCON to be distributed in major markets across the world.
