W. R. Grace & Co. has inked a contract with Dow Chemical to develop new catalysts for the manufacture of polypropylene.
Grace will market these catalysts under the brand name HYAMPP. The catalysts leveraged one of the non-phthalate internal donor technologies, developed by Dow Chemical, as well as the catalyst knowledge of Grace.
Non-phthalate HYAMPP catalysts perform industry-leading activity and denote sixth-generation technology. These catalysts help in the production of resins that enhance clarity, performance, stiffness and impact strength of plastics and offer a way to new applications, which need more demanding properties.
The resins can be utilized in a variety of applications like automobile components, films, domestic containers and appliances, and high-performance pipe. Grace has planned to commence the commercial manufacturing of the new catalysts in 2012.
According to the General Manager and Vice President of Grace’s Specialty Catalysts & Process Technologies product line, Tony Dondero, the company continues to explore ways to satisfy the requirements of customers and the products’ end-users. This sixth-generation technology has enabled customers to manufacture new and enhanced polypropylene products that contain clearer, stronger resins along with enhanced processability.
Tracy Cleckler, Global Commercial Director for Dow Licensing and Catalysts, stated that Dow strives to reinforce its potential to deliver improved technology to the polypropylene market. The new contract widens the company’s footprint in the polypropylene industry and helps producers to address the increasing demand for best, value-added polypropylene product line, globally.
