WITT TPU, a new flexible polyurethane lining material offered by Witt Lining Systems, has been used to repair a concrete vessel for a pet products manufacturer in the Midwest.
The manufacturer was looking for a way to restart an abandoned concrete vessel, which had a strongly adhered coating over it. As time passed, the coating produced beef tallow, which penetrated into the concrete, created cracks and spalls and made the vessel unusable. Hence, to bring the vessel back into service, an alternative solution is required. The pet product company has reached Stein Industries for assistance and the Witt Lining Systems’ lining material has been recommended for the vessel.
WITT TPU polyurethane membrane liner has been mainly developed to restrict fatty acids, hydrocarbons, oils and fuels. It is puncture-resistant and has exceptional physical properties and durability. WITT TPU is FDA certified and is ideal for the animal feed industry. Stein Industries has used a 90 mil WITT TPU material to perform the concrete vessel repair project. The project comprises lining a 3” diameter and 23” long drain fitting and working through 24” manways. To fit WITT TPU in the manway, the body of the lining material has been divided into two segments and later welded together. As the Witt Lining Systems’ liner is not bonded to the concrete, the problems resulting from the absorption of tallow is not present. The vessel has been used by the manufacturer, immediately after the installation of the flexible polyurethane liner.
