Lignol Energy has inked a contract with a global coatings company in order to market up to 10 t of the company’s own HP-L lignin.
This lignin will be used for product trials. According to the agreement, Lignol has initially marketed 2 t of HP-L lignin to the global coating company.
This sale is the result of the completion of a joint development program for several years, during which Lignol offered test quantities of a range of lignin derivatives for use in a variety of epoxy coating formulations. The unique technology of Lignol was utilized to alter lignin properties for precise end uses. Lignol has an objective to support commercial opportunities of marketing HP-L Lignin to different end-uses and industries.
The CEO and President of Lignol, Ross MacLachlan stated that the company’s technology deployment has considered its capability to show the products’ business potential from the biorefinery method to the sales of lignin, as a significant precursor. The value of the HP-L Lignin is highlighted through the commercial contract received from the global coating technology leader and this HP-L Lignin can be used as a functional and renewable constituent in chemical products, according to Ross.
Lignol is involved in a variety of application development projects, together with the products obtained through the company’s biorefinery technology. HP-L Lignin is integrated into several core products used in the chemical industry, which includes binders, coatings, thermoplastics and resins. Lignol is producing derivatives of high value from the biomass’ cellulose fraction.
