ETREMA Products, a global provider of magnetostrictive materials like Terfenol-D, has announced that a Lucifer Furnaces High Temperature GT furnace has been installed at the company’s Iowa plant.
HS3GT-K24 Lucifer Furnaces
Under inert atmospheric circumstances, Model HS3GT can potentially heat up to 2450°F with the help of SCR power supply in order to obtain regulated output of current and voltage. The working dimension of this single chamber box unit is 12”H x 12”W x 24”L. Silicon carbide glowbar elements, which were fixed across the roof and below the heavy duty silicon carbide hearth plate, are used in this unit for uniform heating. 4 in of multilayered ceramic fiber insulation of premium grade ensure high durability and minimal heat loss in thermal shock conditions, and 2 ½ in of mineral wool insulation are provided as a backup lining for the work area. The outer shell of the HS3GT furnace is fabricated using heavy gauge sheet steel, which is strengthened and welded continuously for operation, having the inert atmosphere in a positive flow.
The company has specifically designed the double pivot horizontal swing door to resist distortion and warping as well as to protect the operator from the hot face of the furnace. The door located next to the furnace faceplate is compressed by a ceramic fiber gasket and T-handled swing bolts present around the perimeter of the door. An over temperature safety system along with an inert atmosphere flow meter and a high-limit controller is incorporated to the accessories.
The company has an intention to employ this HS3GT furnace in process development activity of its Galfenol alloy system. A new magnetostrictive material, Galfenol combines mechanical and magnetostrictive properties. The company provides engineering services, which were focused on expansion of magnetostrictive device for use in different applications and industries.
