Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Crown has planned to construct a new aluminum beverage can manufacturing facility in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The plant helps to meet the rising demand for the packaging products in the region. Sihanoukville is located on the Gulf of Thailand and it is Cambodia’s major commercial port. The new plant will be the company’s second beverage can facility in Cambodia and it will house several can production lines. It will have an initial aluminum can manufacturing capacity of 725 million two-piece 33cl units per year. The Sihanoukville plant is anticipated to commence operation in Q3 of 2013.
The President of Crown Asia-Pacific, Jozef Salaerts, stated that Cambodia is developing consistently, which in turn has caused the increased demand for the products of Crown’s customers. The company experiences a preference for two-piece aluminum beverage cans from its customers, added Salaerts. The company has signed a long term agreement with a major brewer as a part of its new investment project. The current expansion represents the company’s commitment to support the increasing needs of its regional and worldwide clients and to aid them to establish their brands in Cambodia.
Currently, the company operates seven metal beverage can facilities in Southeast Asia. It owns one facility each in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia and three facilities in Vietnam: one plant in Hanoi and two plants in Ho Chi Minh City. Recently, Crown has made announcement of its plan to construct a new plant in Danang, Vietnam. This plant is anticipated to be operational in Q2 of 2013.
